bereth is Sindarin for "queen, spouse" or "supreme, sublime".^[1]

Etymology

From Primitive Quendian barathî.^[1]

The early Noldorin explains it comes from root BARATH.^[2]

Notes

It is unrelated to root BERÉTH ("beech, birch"). Also, it doesn't contain the feminine ending -eth.

Although Beleth is referred to as "Bereth" in Unfinished Tales, this was noted to be a mistake.^[3]
