methed is a Sindarin word meaning "end".^[1]^[2]

Etymology

Patrick H. Wynne has suggested that methed appears to be related to the Noldorin adjective methen ("end, final"), and might therefore be derived from the root MET ("end").^[2]^[3]^[4]
