- 1950 - J.R.R. Tolkien returns from a stay at his son's cottage where he made some final revisions to The Lord of the Rings (see Letter 134).
- 1950 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes Letter 129.
- 1951 - First day of the Congrès Internationale de Philologie Moderne at the University of Liège, a conference in which J.R.R. Tolkien delivers the paper "Middle English 'Losenger'".
- 1957 - J.R.R. Tolkien wins the International Fantasy Award.
- 1959 - Actor Jim Meskimen is born.
