• 1956 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes Letter 185.
• 1989 - Heren Hyarmen is founded by Ronald E. Krymse in São Paulo, Brazil. On 9 January 2003, the name was changed to "Heren Hyarmeno", the correct Quenya genitive to mean "Order of the South".
• 2000 - Voice actor Fraser Kerr dies.
