- 1925 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes letter 8.
- 1928 – Orson Bean, who would voice Bilbo Baggins in Rankin/Bass' The Hobbit and The Return of the King, and Frodo in the latter, is born.
- 1955 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes letter 166.
- 1969 - James Arnold Taylor, who would voice several voices in Tolkien themed video games, is born.
