- 1967 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes a letter to a Mr Joukes.
- 1968 - Billy Boyd, who would play Peregrin Took in The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, is born.
- 1973 - J.R.R. Tolkien takes a holiday to visit friends in Bournemouth. He would die there 5 days later.
- 1977 - Mythcon VIII.
- 1981 - Tom Shippey reviews The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien for The Times Literary Supplement.
- 1982 - The seventh episode of the new version of the 1981 radio series of The Lord of the Rings is aired on BBC Radio 4.
- 1987 - John Huston, the voice of Gandalf in The Hobbit (1977 film) and The Return of the King (1980 film), dies.
- 2010 - The Tolkien Society's Southern Hemisphere seminar: "Tolkien's Odysseys - Middle-earth and Beyond".
