- 1915 - J.R.R. Tolkien applies at the Oxford recruiting office to join the army.
- 1915 - Przemyslaw Mroczkowski, scholar and friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, is born.
- 1919 - The Treaty of Versailles is signed and the first world war officialy ends.
- 1981 - The seventeenth episode of the radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings is aired on BBC Radio 4.
- 1982 - Artist Ray Dillon is born.
- 2000 – The Tolkien Ensemble publish their second album, A Night in Rivendell.
