• 1916 – After being diagnosed with trench fever the previous day, J.R.R. Tolkien is hospitalized.
• 1944 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes Letter 88.
• 1966 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes Letter 290.
• 1988 - The Annotated Hobbit is published.
• 2006 - Author J.E.A. Tyler dies.

• T.A. 3018:
  • Frodo and Samwise rest in Rivendell and prepare for their quest to destroy The One Ring.

• T.A. 3019:
  • Gandalf and the four Hobbits reach Bree at night, and find out much has changed since they last were there.
