- 1937 - C.S. Lewis published a review of The Hobbit in The Times Literary Supplement.
- 1954 - J.R.R. Tolkien receives an honorary doctorate from the University of Liège.
- 1976 - Oxonmoot 1976.
- 1979 - The Jackanory episode "Over Hill and Under Hill" is aired on the BBC.
- 1980 - Unfinished Tales is first published by George Allen & Unwin in the UK.
- 1982 - The twelfth episode of the new version of the 1981 radio series of The Lord of the Rings is aired on BBC Radio 4.
- 2009 - Ring*Con 2009.
- 2010 - Jubilee for Mithlond, the Gothenburg Tolkien Society of Sweden.

- Together with Strider the four hobbits travel towards Weathertop. They enter the Midgewater Marshes.
- Gandalf travels towards Weathertop as well.
- Boromir travels towards Rivendell to ask for counsel.
