- 1940 - David Collings, who would voice the part of Legolas in The Lord of the Rings 1981 radio series, is born.
- 1966 - Author and linguist Arden R. Smith is born.
- 1991 - Olivia Tennet, who would play Freda in Peter Jackson's The Two Towers, is born in Auckland, New Zealand.
- 2005 - Humphrey Carpenter, biographer and editor dies.
