- 1964 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes a letter to Eileen Elgar (of which a part was published as letter 255) and encloses the manuscript "Concerning ... The Hoard" and "Kinship of the Half-elven".
- 1971 - Yuri Lowenthal, who would play Frodo in The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, is born.
