- 1939 - Gordon Reid, who would provide the voices of several characters in The Lord of the Rings radio series, is born.
- 1973 - A requiem Mass for J.R.R. Tolkien is held in the Church of St Anthony of Padua in Headington, Oxford. Father Robert Murray assists.
- 1992 - The first part of the radio adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Bombadil is aired on BBC Radio 5.
