- Quenya: āze, āre, ārĭ- ("warmth, especially of the sun, sunlight"); Árien; arma ("a ray of sunlight"); asta- ("to heat, bake"); ar ("day")[1]
- Sindarin: ast
Other versions of the legendarium
In the Etymologies appears the root ÁS-AT, given no signification. The derivatives are the Quenya and Noldorin words for "dust" (asto and ast).[2]
