Adanel (born F.A. 339) was a Wise-woman from the House of Marach, the daughter and possibly the eldest child of Malach Aradan and Zimrahin Meldis, and the elder sister of Magor who was the heir of the House of Marach. It was mentioned that Adanel had many other brothers and sisters as well, and they also might have been younger than she. Adanel was also a grand-daughter of Marach himself. Adanel was the wife of Belemir of the House of Bëor and it was said that they had five children all together. She was the mother of Beren who was said to be her fifth child and youngest son, who was the grandfather of his great and renowned namesake grandson, Beren Erchamion.[1]
The Wise of the People of Marach were the only Men to preserve the tale of their original sin, when, soon after their awakening, some Men chose to worship Melkor instead of Eru.[2] Adanel told this tale to her niece, Andreth of the House of Bëor.[3]

Other Versions of the Legendarium
Originally Hador Lórindol was the leader who led the people of the third house of the Edain across the Ered Luin into Beleriand and Adanel was his sister. When the House of Hador genealogy was changed so that Marach was the first leader then Adanel became the great-aunt of Hador.
There were two versions of the genealogical table for the House of Hador. In the first version of the table there was a note that Beren, son of Belemir and Adanel, was their fifth child. In the second version there was no reference to these other children. The section of the second version shown above shows only the first Beren although the other children may have existed.[1]
