British artist Alan Lee (born 1947) has illustrated numerous Tolkien Calendars as well as books. Lee and John Howe were the lead conceptual designers for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and both had a small cameo in The Fellowship of the Ring. In the prologue Lee and Howe played two of the nine Kings of Men who received Rings of Power from Sauron.
