As recorded in The Peoples of Middle-earth, J.R.R. Tolkien wished to change the name of Amras to Amros, because of linguistic issues (see The Problem of Ros). This was written late in life, and because there are no known manuscripts with this change incorporated, its canonicity is in dispute.
