anna is a noun meaning "gift" in Quenya.[1]
Anna is also the name in Quenya of the twenty-third letter of the Tengwar alphabet.[1] It is the third letter of the sixth grade or Tyellë, which contains "semi-vocalic" consonants and it is the fifth letter in the third series of consonants. This letter is commonly used for consonantal Y,[2] except in the Mode of Beleriand. As seen in the West-gate of Moria inscription, Anna in this "full writing" mode is used for O.[3] The Westron name for this letter is Yé.[4][edit] Example
- Annatar = "Lord of Gifts"
[edit] Etymology
The word derives from the Primitive Quendian root ANA.[5]
