Quenya

Aran is the word for king in Sindarin. It was adopted as aran in Quenya too, despite the existence of an actual cognate haran, "chieftain". The same root was shared by the Adûnaic word for King, Âru. The Westron form however became Aran again.

Sindarin, Mode of Beleriand
