The Battle of the Gelion-Ascar Stockade was a battle fought about FA 375 between Orcs of the Ered Luin and the Haladin under Haldad. The Orcs laid siege to the Gelion-Ascar Stockade, where the Haladin had retreated upon their initial attack. The food of the fortress ran out, and Haldad made a sortie in which he and his eldest son, Haldar, were killed. His daughter Haleth held the Haladin together for another ten days, until Caranthir came to rescue them. The Elf-lord drove away the Orcs, saving the besieged.

Possible numbers for either forces would've been relatively low. It is likely tha only a part of Haldad's folk participated in the battle and I would give their number no more than a few hundred. The Orcs could've numbered up to two thousand at the most. Caranthir may have arrived with upwards of five thousand Elves, which was probably only a small force of his anyway. Haldad's casualties would've been light considering that the stockade was never broken and only the men in his sortie would've been slain, the Orcish force would've been annihilated.[source?]
