Bofur was one of Dwarf companions of King Thorin Oakenshield during the Quest of Erebor, and was the brother of Bomburs and a cousin of Bifurs. He later fought and survived the Battle of Five Armies, and made his dwelling in Erebor. Bofur was a descendent of Dwarves of Khazad-dûm, but was not of Durin's line, which means he was of either the house of the Firebeards or the Broadbeams. Both these Houses populations were almost totally in Khazad-dûm up until the awakening of Durin's Bane.
