Sir Derek George Jacobi, CBE (October 22, 1938) is an English actor. Though already an acclaimed performer on stage, he gained star status in 1976, as the titular character in the BBC's classic series I, Claudius, which also proved successfull for Brian Blessed, John Rhys-Davies, John Hurt, Christopher Guard and Bernard Hill. Noted for his outstanding voice, Jacobi provided narration for many audiobooks. He narrated Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Homer's Illiad, and several of J.R.R. Tolkien's lesser known works.
