Disa Törngren
Disa Törngren was a Swedish publisher, translator and author. Among her literary achievements was the co-authoring of Hexikon: En sagolik uppslagsbok (1981; ["Hexicon: An Encyclopedia of Fairy-tales"]).
Disa Törngren's son, Erland Törngren, has described how his mother (then working as Head of the fiction department of the publishing house Geber), having heard about the success of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings in England, contacted Stanley Unwin during the later 1950s in order to negotiate the Swedish publication rights.[1] On behalf of Almqvist & Wiksell/Gebers Förlag, Törngren wrote on 3 July 1956 to Allen & Unwin that Åke Ohlmarks had been chosen as the translator of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.[2]
In 1978, her translation of Humphrey Carpenter's J.R.R. Tolkien: A Biography was published. The poems included in the book were translated by Åke Ohlmarks.[3]
