Angelo Montanini's illustration of Dori.

Dori is one of three dwarf brothers (the other two are Nori and Ori) who befriended Bilbo and traveled with him in search of Smaug's treasure, as related in 'The Hobbit.'

Dori was noteworthy for two incidents in the tale: Dori carried Bilbo in the tunnels of the Misty Mountains during the escape from the goblins, but unfortunately dropped him; the other dwarves later blamed him for "losing their burglar."

Later, during the escape from the Wargs, Dori climbed down from a tree, which allowed Bilbo to scramble up the tree. Bilbo later grabbed Dori's legs as they bother were carried off by an eagle, saving them from a fire lit by goblins.

Dori, fought in and survived the Battle of Five Armies. He may have also fought in the Battle of Dale during the War of the Ring.

Dori was of of Durin's line and a remote relation of Thorin Oakenshield's.
