Eärendil (Q "sea-friend", pron. [ˌe.aˈrendil]; Third Age 48 – 324, aged 276 years) was the fifth King of Gondor, ruling for 86 years, from Third Age 238 until his death.

History

The only recorded historical event to take place during Eärendil's reign was the birth of Elrond's daughter Arwen, three years after he took the throne. No one in Gondor at that time could have known how significant that event would be: nearly three thousand years later, Arwen was to wed Aragorn II, a distant descendant of Eärendil's ancestor Elendil, and become Queen of his realm.

Eärendil rule was peaceful and he was succeeded by his son Anardil.
