Eärnil I (Q: contracted form of Eärendil, pron. [eˈarnil]; T.A. 736[1]936,[2] aged 200 years) was the thirteenth King of Gondor and the second Ship-king.

History

In T.A. 913 he succeeded his uncle Tarannon Falastur, who died childless. Eärnil was the son of Tarannon's brother Tarciryan.[2] He continued with the expansionist maritime policy of his predecessor by constructing a great navy and repairing the ancient havens of Pelargir,[1] and then capturing the Haven of Umbar in T.A. 933.[3] He was tragically lost at sea in 936 near Umbar and was succeeded by his son Ciryandil.[4]
