Eldacar (T.A. 87[1]339,[2] died aged 252 years) was the fourth King of Arnor.

History

Eldacar succeeded his father, Valandil, when he died in T.A. 249. His father Valandil was the only surviving son of Isildur, the last High King of both Gondor and Arnor.

His reign was without any significant event, and he died in T.A. 339 after having ruled Arnor for ninety years. He was succeeded by his son Arantar.[2]

Etymology

Eldacar's name was Quenya for "Elf Helm", coming from elda meaning "elf", and cár meaning "head". It was usual for long vowels of the ultimate syllable to be short, hence Eldacar and not Eldacár.
