Essais de philologie moderne (1951) is a collection of the proceedings of a conference held at the University of Liège in 1951. It includes J.R.R. Tolkien's essay "Middle English 'Losenger'" (pp. [63]-76). All other contributions to this volume are in French.

Copies presented to attendees include a printed thank you message, and their name written by hand, on the verso of the title page. In "normal" copies this page is blank.

Tolkien's essay was also published as an offprint, see Middle English 'Losenger': Sketch of an etymological and semantic enquiry.
