Fish were common throughout the bodies of water in Arda. There is evidence of Nindamos in Númenor and the Ethir in Gondor of fishing with nets. The Hobbits of the Shire were known to use fishing poles and one of their favorite locations was The Golden Perch. Gollum was also known as enjoying fish and catching them with his bare hands. It was during a fishing trip in which Gollum acquired the One Ring.
