Fish were common throughout the bodies of water in Arda. There is evidence of fishing with nets in Nindamos in Númenor and the Ethir in Gondor. The Hobbits of the Shire were known to use fishing poles and one of their favorite locations was near The Golden Perch. Gollum was also known as enjoying fish and catching them with his bare hands. It was during a fishing trip that Gollum acquired the One Ring.
