In the book this was the place of crossing chosen by Aragorn to enter Rivendell in The Fellowship of the Ring. In the Book it was Glorfindel who helped them cross by placing Frodo on his horse and the horse carried Frodo across just as Elrond and Gandalf summonded a great Flood of Bruinen to carry away the pursuing Nazgul.
