He became Thain just two years before Bilbo Baggins left Hobbiton for his adventures in The Wild. He married Lalia Clayhanger in T.A. 2914, who was to become a famous matriarch of the Took clan, and came to be called Lalia the Great, and had one son, Ferumbras Took III who was born in T.A. 2916.
After Fortinbras's death in T.A. 2980 and was succeeded as Thain by his son, however, in accordance with Took tradition, Lalia continued to be head of the family until her death in T.A. 3002.
