Forum:Tauriel - Possible Royal Blood
Just watched "The Desolation of Smaug." WOW! As a movie, it is awesome…but it does not follow the book very well. Just set that aside and enjoy the movie. The female elf, Tauriel, is a cool character, a pure Silvan Elf (Nandor or “Wood Elves”). I forgot the fact that Thranduil and Legolas were Sindar Elves (Grey Elves) and came from the West. Also, I watched with interest the fact that Tauriel can use the Athelas plant to cure poison which possibly points to the fact that she may have royal blood.
- There isn't really a definitive record on Oropher, Thranduil and Legolas and their heritage. How pure their Sindar blood is was never really explained. Nonetheless, to Elven standards, they're hicks.
- Athelas seems to be used mainly because the audience is familiar with it, and the stupid ways people ignorant of its true properties use it. It's a gag that calls back to FotR and RotK (though the latter book-only). You shouldn't pain yourself seeing connections and all.
- But yeah, it was an awesome movie. I loved Bombur the Barrel Rider. The part I most dreaded, the Spiders, was sufficiently scary and sufficiently short. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:38, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- I think that Tauriel has nothing to do with the books and is a non-canon character. Although if Tauriel was a canon character that answer would be somewhere in Tolkien's notes or never made. Call me crazy but there might be a chance that Oropher and possibly Thranduil were power crazy. I mean a Sindarin elf leading a realm of Nandorin elves? But yes I agree with you over all. Also, Tolkien probably put aside the genealogies of the woodland kings as one of his abandoned projects. The movie was extremely cool! Better than the first one.--Pippin4 01:22, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
