These have been the remaining [[Elves]], the [[House of Durin]], [[Hobbits]]. Of [[Men]], the [[Dúnedain]] along with the [[Middle Men]] (as opposed to the [[Men of Darkness]]) were accounted to the Free peoples.

The Free Peoples of the World[1] were those people that opposed Sauron. It is unclear to when this term dates back; whether it also applies to those that opposed his reign in the Second Age, or only those of the Third Age.

History

The members of the Fellowship of the Ring were specifically chosen so that at least one representative of all the free peoples would be there: one for the Elves, one for the Dwarves and two for Men.[1] As they had appeared relatively late in the knowledge of most, Hobbits were generally not reckoned among them until the War of the Ring.[2]

2001: Peter Jackson's The Fellowship of the Ring:

In the prologue, the term "Free Peoples of Middle-earth" is used to describe those that formed the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.[3]

2007: The Lord of the Rings Online:
