Galbasi is a Hobbitish surname, translated as "Gamwich". It was corrupted as Galpsi.[1]

[edit] Etymology

The surname comes from the name of the village Galabas "Gamwich".

The name Galabas uses the elements galap, "game", and bas "village", corresponding somewhat to "-wich" or "-wick".

[edit] Translation

The name was translated as "Gammidgy" and the corrupted form as Gamgee.
