Games Workshop is a British game production and retailing company, founded in 1975. One of its key products was the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game, along with its more popular titles, Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. Since 2001 it has produced a vast number of miniatures related to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings, and also collections of Middle-earth figures not related with the movies.

In 1985, Games Workshop introduced the MERP-system in the UK by publishing Middle-earth, The Role-playing Game set in J.R.R. Tolkien's World.
