In 1985, Games Workshop introduced the MERP-system in the UK by publishing Middle-earth, The Role-playing Game set in J.R.R. Tolkien's World.
In 2001, Games Workshop introduced the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game, a miniature game based on The Lord of the Rings (film series).
In 2005 was released the board game The Battle of Five Armies, based on the events of the Battle of Five Armies from The Hobbit.
