The name comes from the village of [[Gamwich]], which was the family's first home. During the [[War of the Ring]], a part of the family lived in [[Hobbiton]], at Number 3, [[Bagshot Row]]. The most famous member of the Gamgee family is [[Samwise Gamgee|Samwise]], heir of [[Frodo]] and son-in-law of [[Tolman Cotton]].
