George Hosato Takei Altman (April 20, 1937) is an American actor, best known as Mr. Sulu of Star Trek fame. He is still good friends with his co-star Leonard Nimoy.

In 1991, conductor David Warble asked Takei to provide the narration for Johan de Meij's Symphony No. 1, "The Lord of the Rings". Out of curiosity and admitation of The Lord of the Rings, Takei agreed. The show premiered in the Fall of 1991 in the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and has since been performed on many places in the world.
