George Hosato Takei Altman (20 April 1937) is an American actor, best known as Mr. Sulu of Star Trek fame. He was friends[source?] with his co-star, Leonard Nimoy, until Nimoy passed away on 27 February 2015.

In 1991, conductor David Warble asked Takei to provide the narration for Johan de Meij's Symphony No. 1, "The Lord of the Rings". Out of curiosity and admiration of The Lord of the Rings, Takei agreed. The show premiered in the Fall of 1991 in the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and has since been performed on many places in the world.
