"Gerald of Wales on the Survival of Welsh" is an article by W. Rhys Roberts, to which J.R.R. Tolkien contributed with a translation of a portion of a Latin text into late twelfth century English of the South West Midlands. It also notes a suggestion by Tolkien on the significance of "senior quidam".[1]
The article was first published in the Welsh annual journal The Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion: Session 1923-24 in 1925. In 2005, Tolkien's contribution was reprinted in Tolkien Studies: Volume 2, in the article "J.R.R. Tolkien and W. Rhys Roberts's 'Gerald of Wales on the Survival of Welsh'" by Douglas A. Anderson.
