The term "Halfling" was a name given to [[Hobbits]] by the [[Dunedain]] upon their arrival in Middle Earth. Though they have since diminished in stature since the line of kings failed, Numenorians at their greatest stood seven feet tall, making the average Hobbit about half their height. The name was still used by Gondorians in the Third Age, most noticably by [[Denethor]] and his sons [[Faramir]] and [[Boromir]].
