Halfred Gamgee was a Hobbit of the Shire.
History[edit | edit source]
Halfred was the youngest son of Roper Gamgee. He settled in Overhill,[1] and had one son, Halfast, who worked for the local Boffins.[2]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The name comes from Old English healfrēad "half-red, reddish" or from healfrǣd "half counsel".[3]
