Halmir (F.A. 390 - 471) was the son of Haldan and the lord of the People of Haleth in Brethil[1] at the time of the Dagor Bragollach ("Battle of Sudden Flame").[2] He was the father of Haldir, Hundar, Hareth and Hiril.

After that battle, and the capture of Minas Tirith, Orcs began to roam unhindered across the lands of West Beleriand. Halmir called on the aid of King Thingol, who sent many stout Sindarin warriors under the command of Beleg to his aid. Together, Halmir and Beleg destroyed a legion of invading Orcs, and gave the southern lands a respite from the defeats in the north.[3]

Halmir joined the Union of Maedhros but died before the next battle. He was succeeded as leader of the Haladin by his son, Haldir.[4]
