Hamfast of Gamwich was a Hobbit of the Shire.
History[edit | edit source]
Hamfast lived in Gamwich. He was the father of Wiseman, who moved to Tighfield, and as such, he was the progenitor of the Gamwich (later Gamgee) family.[1]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The name Hamfast comes from Old English hámfæst, meaning "stay-at-home". It was a translation of Westron Ranugad.[2]
