Among his vassals was named [[Freca]], who was of distant kin to Helm, but it was said that the blood of [[Dunland]] also ran in his veins. Though Helm did not trust Freca, he was still granted a place on the King's council. One fateful day Freca rode to [[Edoras]] from his own lands on the banks of the [[Adorn]] with an escort of many men, and demanded that Helm give his daughter in marriage to Freca's son [[Wulf]]. Outside the hall of [[Meduseld]], Helm struck Freca a fatal blow with his great fist, and from that time on he was known to history as [[Helm Hammerhand]].
