Harding of the Hill (born S.R. 1501) was the son of Holfast Gardner, and the great-grandson of master Samwise Gamgee. He, and the other Gardners of the Hill, lived in Bag End after Samwise left The Shire in S.R. 1482.

Etymology

Old English hearding means "hard one, strong one".[1]
