Alan Lee - Haudh-en-Elleth

Haudh-en-Elleth was the grave of Finduilas of Nargothrond that stood near the Crossings of Teiglin on the western borders of the Forest of Brethil.[1] Turin would not allow Orcs to draw near to the mound.[2] On one of his forays to battle Orcs near the Crossings, Turin discovered Niënor his sister (whom he did not know) upon the mound, naked and cowering from a storm.[3] Later Turin met Mablung at the mound and learned that Niënor was indeed his sister.[4]

Etymology

Haudh-en-Elleth is a Sindarin name glossed as "Mound of the Elf-maid" or "mound (grave) of the Noldorin maid".[5]
