Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, formerly known as Houghton Mifflin, holds the right for publishing works of J.R.R. Tolkien in the United States. Harper Collins is the European publisher.
On January 16th, 2001, Houghton Mifflin announced they had acquired rights to publish books based on The Lord of the Rings (film series).
