Humphrey Carpenter (1946 - 2005)
Carpenter wrote the Authorised Biography of J.R.R. Tolkien published by Allen & Unwin in 1977, as well as helped edit The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981). He died at the young age of 58 from heart failure.
