Humphrey Carpenter (1946 - 2005)
Carpenter wrote the Biography of J.R.R. Tolkien published by Allen and Unwin in 1977, as well as helped edit The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981). He died at the young age of 58 from heart failure.
